 During the WWII a series of bombs are known* to have fallen on the line shown here.  Feature E discussed in the tunnel story is shown by the blue triangle.  No-one can recall where bombs were dropped or recall any excavation.  It seems that a JCB used to find out more about this feature might either trigger serious subsidence or cause the JCB bucket to sail aloft.  Then, maybe nothing will happen and we would not be any wiser.

 

* war memoirs from Robin Freeston.  Unfortunately he doesn't include this stick of bombs but has raised it verbally - it was memorable because the last one fell very near his uncle's house on Towcester Road.

A sunken patch about 5 foot across at A1 (in the GF Collection 2002 there is a picture just like this one - with no comment)
