September 1936 Directory for Residents of Blisworth Parish
This is an extract from a "Northampton County Borough
Directory" which is structured in a very similar
way to a Kelly's directory. The majority of the volume, 750pp and 2¼
inches thick, is dedicated to the
town of Northampton, its institutions, committees, businesses &c. as well as
including a full residential
list.
A few pages are devoted to residential lists for the 'Adjacent
Villages' and the part for Blisworth is copied
below. Its usefulness
seems to be somewhat limited, perhaps to merely being a checklist in a
polling station, as a
full address is seldom included. The directory was however lodged with a
Station
Master (L.M.S.) and would probably have been useful in forwarding inadequately
addressed post. After
all, it was not until 1952 that the houses in Blisworth all acquired numbers.
For research purposes the list
could
be of
considerable use here in locating family 'heads' in lieu of any
census for
1931
and
1941.
There are some odd inconsistencies, eg. the Sun, Moon &
Stars Inn is sometimes
entered as the
Half Moon Inn. This implies the directory was first compiled before
about 1914 and location names
are then revised only when a particular occupant's entry is revised.
The third column has been added by us as an aid to interpretation of the inadequate addresses.
